Yaroslavl Millennium

In the year 2010 the city will celebrate its millennium. Yaroslavl, which is older than some modern countries in the world, remains a unique city with its own peculiar traditions and character. It is ancient and modern at the same time. Its look reflects the history of the whole country as well as the history of many Russian towns.

Appeal from the Board of Trustees of the City Foundation for the Millennium Jubilee of Yaroslavl to companies, public organisations, political parties, Yaroslavl citizens and friends of Yaroslavl both in Russia and abroad

Dear friends,

The millennium jubilee of Yaroslavl is coming. It depends on every one of us how the city will approach it.
Charity and patronage of arts have always been more than just words in Yaroslavl. Most of the Yaroslavl merchants and industrialists of old are now remembered as devoted citizens and people of charity. Many churches, hospitals, schools, libraries and roads have been constructed in this city with private donations. They are now our local treasures, both as public property and the symbol of devotion to the city and sympathy to the faith of compatriots.
And it is not only donations that are important to prepare for the coming jubilee, but also any contribution and support from every citizen, company, public organisations and political parties.
Spend some time helping to clean the streets, take part in various contests, take care of your yard, donate to social projects - any participation in the jubilee activities will meet the gratitude of the people of Yaroslavl today and through the next thousand years.
The City Foundation for the Millennium Jubilee of Yaroslavl is to combine efforts and resources for the worthy celebration of the city jubilee. The funds raised by the foundation will be spent on numerous social and cultural projects, in particular, on supporting the public sports, city improvements and development, restoration of architectural monuments, publishing books dedicated to the jubilee. New infrastructure objects are to appear in Yaroslavl, in particular, in 2006 certain sums are to be spent on creating the zoo in Yaroslavl, building the Church of Tikhon, founding the cultural-educational centre named after the first woman astronaut Valentina Tereshkova, erecting the monument to the millennium of Yaroslavl.
We count on involvement of all charity-minded people, citizens and friends of Yaroslavl in preparation for the coming millennium jubilee of the city.
