Heraldry
The city’s symbols have a great importance in popularization of Yaroslavl in Russia and abroad. The city Coat-of-Arms and the Flag were developed and adopted by the Yaroslavl City Council in accordance with the legislation regarding organization of the local governing in Yaroslavl (the historical symbol of the city – a bear with an axe – was taken as the basis). The procedure the Coat-of-Arms picture use by legal and physical persons for commercial and other purposes is established by legal acts of the Head of the city self-government. The Coat-of-Arms of Yaroslavl The Flag of Yaroslavl  The Badge of the Mayor of Yaroslavl  The Honorary Citizen of Yaroslavl Badge  With a view to preserve intergenerational continuity, promote the Yaroslavl citizens’ feeling of pride for their city and their gratitude to those having contributed to its development, tradition of awarding the title the Honorary Citizen of Yaroslavl has been revived. Services to the City of Yaroslavl Badge  In 1997 the Services to the City of Yaroslavl Badge was established. The citizens are awarded with this badge for carrying out specific actions useful for the city with respect to development of industry, construction, transport, education and healthcare, science, culture, sports, for the achievements in maintaining alertness of military subdivisions, formations and units, for strengthening of law and order, for charitable activities and other services to the city and its citizens. Honorary Badge of the City of Yaroslavl In 2005 the Honorary Badge of the City of Yaroslavl was established (municipal council resolution from 12.05.2005 No.105). The citizens are awarded with this badge for conscientious work and personal contribution to development of industry, construction, architecture, transport, communication, healthcare, education, sports, culture and art, youth politics, journalism, science, housing and communal services, nature management and environment preservation, social protection, commerce, catering, consumer services, economy and financing activities, small and middle business, local government, social work and social forms of local governing, revival of historic heritage, cultural, moral, and patriotic education of citizens, to the strengthening of law and order, security of safe vital activity, charitable activities, patronage of art.
